AI Usage Policy
Effective date: January 13, 2025
This policy establishes guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within By Night Studios to ensure the integrity and originality of our commercial art and writing while permitting AI to assist in non-commercial and internal tasks.
Policy on AI usage for commercial content
Art creation
Prohibited acts: AI cannot be used to generate any original commercial art assets.
Permitted acts: Artists commissioned and paid by By Night Studios may use AI as a tool for cleanup, enhancement, or refinement of their work at their discretion. Final creative output must remain under the control of the commissioned artist. Art touch-up using published AI tools such as in the Adobe Suite for fill and other works is allowed. Layout artists may make use of tools for automated alignment and similar needs as necessary for the professional completion of works.
Writing creation
Prohibited acts: AI cannot be used to generate any original commercial writing, including concepts, narratives, or other written material commissioned by By Night Studios. This applies to all Darkness Emergent stories, books, and related commercial products.
Permitted acts: Writers may use AI for non-creative tasks such as checking spelling, grammar, or stylistic polishing of their own work.
Policy on AI usage for non-commercial content
Internal use
AI may be used for internal tasks such as:
- Idea generation
- Cleanup and refinement of internal communications, emails, and documentation
- Drafting and improving marketing collateral and website content
Non-commercial external use
Art prohibition: AI-generated art cannot be used externally, even for non-commercial purposes. All external art must be created by a commissioned artist and/or sourced from licensed stock or assets.
Writing permitted: Non-commercial external writing (for example blogs, promotional materials, and social media posts) may use AI assistance for cleanup and refinement but must retain originality from human authors.
Compliance
Employees and contractors must adhere to this policy to maintain the creative integrity of By Night Studios’ products. Violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of contracts.
